What the municipal rules say

Revelstoke enacted replacement Zoning Bylaw 2406 on April 10, 2025.

What applies locally

The city lists Bylaw 2406 under completed projects, distinguishing it from older Bylaw 2299. Council highlights describe new carriage/garden-suite rules and low-density residential lot dimensions preceding adoption.

Important limits and exceptions

Do not assume every urban lot can accommodate the same small-scale housing form. Confirm the 2406 district schedule and zoning map, building placement, lot size, terrain and required permits.

Before work begins: confirm the lot’s actual zoning, mapped overlays, legal parcel characteristics, servicing and applicable building permit conditions with the municipality.

Guide review: Verified informational guide; parcel eligibility not verified. This does not approve a development or building permit.

Municipal guidance is a starting point, not a property approval. This page does not calculate a legal unit count for an individual lot.

How this guide was verified

Guide verification: Targeted municipal source review documented. Selected rule or adoption claims were checked against named official material and recorded in the site research notes. This is not a complete current bylaw, zoning-map or amendment certification.

Property confidence: Not assessed. City-wide guidance does not confirm permission for a particular parcel. Check official zoning, overlays and permits. How verification works →

Current municipal rule to check

Revelstoke’s March 2025 Secondary Suite Building Permit Checklist requires a complete application and applicable fees. A development permit or variance, if required, must be approved before the building permit is issued; the checklist also calls for drawings and potentially energy, plumbing or professional documents. Zoning must be checked for the individual parcel.
